Preston Disc Information Day - Disability LIB
Preston DISC held a Disability Community Information day to update information on current developments with the Disability LIB alliance.
This was attended by about 70 people
Charlotte Bowen gave a talk on the Social Model of Disability as a means of addressing the issues of barriers to people with disabilities.
Garry Birkenhead gave a talk on the Disability LIB Alliance on DPO's (Disabled Peoples Organisations) needs and how the new project with SCOPE, Disability Awareness in Action, People First, the United Kingdom’s Disabled People’s Council (UKDPC), Equalities National Council, the Alliance for Inclusive Education and last but not least Preston DISC (Disability Information Services Centre) is working to meet the challenges and co-ordinate efforts to raise awareness of people with disabilities.
Sadly the speaker for the Independant Living Bill talk was held up and unable to make the meeting in time, so Garry Birkenhead spoke on her behalf with a very informative update on the progress of the Independant Living Bill progress in Parliament.

Following this there was a forum session with extensive questions, answers and lively discussions relating to Disability issues with Preston DISC manager Melanie Close, Garry Birkenhead and .Charlotte Bowen
The day was rounded off with refreshments, networking, have your say on the 2012 Preston Guild and the BIG Disability message Session.
