Events to go on after death of
Preston DISC trustee.
A PRESTON Disability centre held two events in honour of former trustee and fundraiser Tom Harris.
Mr. Harris, 55, became a wheelchair user after developing multiple sclerosis when he was 47.
He passed away recently from various health problems.
He was a valued member of the Preston Disability Information Services Centre (DISC) and was a trustee and a member of the partnership of the board.
He joined the volunteer disability centre in 2004 and his dedication to raising money to provide services for disabled people led him to set up the fund-raising group.
Tom and his wife, Gail, 46, had been married for nine years.
Speaking of her husband's commitment to DISC, Mrs. Harris said: "I am very proud of him. He was dedicated to DISC and to the partnership board. He would fight tooth and nail for the disabled."
"I'm just glad they are carrying on with everything, because that's what he wanted.'"
A 'fun night' was the fund-raising group's first event, and was organised by Mr. Harris.
Melanie Close, centre manager, said: "We know the night will be exactly the way he wanted it".
"He worked so hard for us when he was so ill and right up to the end, he's raised money for us."
"He's done so much for some-one so ill. He was such a character and a nice guy. We will miss him here."
DISC's second fund-raising event was Saturday. 16th Sept
A group of volunteers did a sponsored walk across
Morecambe
Bay.
Mrs. Harris took part in the walk in honour of Tom, along with members of her family.
Melanie added: ''It's a good way to raise funds to help us deliver services." We hope those taking part found it enjoyable and informative.
A fun night was held at the Greenland Labour Club, Chatburn Road, Ribbleton,
Preston.
